Local Guidelines

  • Taking photos of government facilities, military sites, or oil and gas installations is not allowed under UAE law.
  • Disposing of litter in public areas can lead to fines, so please use designated bins.
  • Smoking is prohibited in indoor spaces and many public locations, always look for permitted smoking areas.
  • Before photographing Emirati individuals, kindly request their permission first.
  • Refrain from taking photos of women in traditional local clothing out of respect for cultural norms.

  • Public displays of affection should be avoided as they may be considered inappropriate in local culture.
  • Although the UAE follows a generally relaxed dress style, it remains an Islamic country, so modest attire is recommended, especially in malls, souks, rural communities, and during visits to mosques or religious sites. Women are advised to keep shoulders and knees covered, and clothing should not be see-through, tight, or overly revealing. Light clothing works well for most of the year, while jackets or sweaters may be helpful in winter evenings or during desert tours. Hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses are strongly recommended during the day.

Ramadan Guidelines

  • Ramadan is the holy month in which Muslims observe fasting from dawn until sunset, commemorating the revelation of the Quran. During daylight hours, it is expected that everyone, including visitors, avoids eating, drinking, or smoking in public. Many hotels and selected restaurants provide meals discreetly, often serving after sunset.
